What are the ear hooks and pins made from?

Our ear hooks and pins come with stainless steel as standard but we do offer an upgrade to sterling silver with the earrings for an extra $10.

Stainless steel is hypoallergenic and doesn't tarnish.

Are your feathers dyed or painted?

This is something we get asked a lot at the markets and the answer is no. We do not colour our feathers. They are natural and the patterns and colours are made by the clever birds. I assemble them into complimentary designs which are layered feathers rather than a paint effect.

Do you recycle any componants of your creations?

Yes, as much as possible.

The feathers are primarily sourced as a byproduct of pest control operations in New Zealand, from shedding birds kept by aviarists and from former fishing fly tyers. I have also reformed the stainless steel ear hooks from new but unsuitable ones. Furthermore I use coins I have metal detected, piano wire destined for the dump and bullet casings from my pest control job. I have also just sourced a selection of leather and suede off cuts that I will be incorporating into my designs. I hope this list will extend as my range develops.

How are the items packaged?

Your feather accessory will be attached to a black velvet foam pad inside a matt black hand stamped box. At this time we wrap the box in recycled bubble wrap and send it in a postage bag to your chosen destination.

Can you gift wrap my purchase and send direct to the recipient?

Absolutely! Pop a note in the order or send me a separate email and I will follow your instructions where possible.

How long does it take for my order to be dispatched?

All items are made to order, by me, in my small studio in Lake Hawea, New Zealand. In some cases I may have your requested purchase already made and I will mail these on the same or next business day. However, in most cases I would expect your order to be mailed to you within seven days and up to ten days during busy periods. Your item will often be ready in advance of this time frame. If you have a time constraint (e.g. if it is a last minute gift) let me know when ordering and I hope I can help. As soon as your purchase is ready it will be mailed; on the same day where possible.

How accurate are the shipping times listed at checkout?

All shipping times are estimated according to New Zealand Post's target delivery times. However, I am based in a small town at the bottom of the planet so sometimes deliveries maybe delayed for a number of reasons. I will mail as soon as possible but I cannot be held responsible for New Zealand or international shipping delays.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We have set the rates in the checkout area. They start at $17.50 economy to Australia or between $25 - $30 economy elsewhere.

We can work this out exactly if you message us with a delivery address and the item you would like to purchase prior to buying. If shipping is less than expected we will refund the difference.

Are there any instructions about the delivery address?

Please nominate a secure and manned delivery address. We do not recommend using a PO BOX.

If there is an issue delivering to the nominated address you may have to collect from the depot at your own cost.

If the parcel is damaged or stolen post delivery we cannot accept responsibility. With this in mind it is your responsibility to:

  •  have the parcel delivered to a manned address.

  • if the parcel needs to be left unmanned we recommend it is somewhere out of sight and covered from the weather.

  • these instructions need to be provided at checkout.

What is your returns policy?

I make every effort and take meticulous care to get your quality, hand made real feather item out to you to your satisfaction. Due to hygiene issues with the earrings and the nature of my small hand crafted business I do not accept returns.

However, if there is a fault with manufacture of the item (which should be a very rare occurrence as I check everything prior to mailing) let me know and I will repair or replace the item at my discretion.

What happens if my order arrives damaged?

We take great care with our packaging but rarely orders are damaged during the delivery process. Your purchase is fully covered for damage - here's how it works:

  • Take photos of the damaged goods with the packaging - be sure to show any obvious damage to the packaging such as crushing and send them to us.

  • We will send out replacement goods at no cost to you.

  • If we no longer have stock of all or part of your order we will refund you for out-of-stock items or arrange a back order - whichever you prefer.

  • Damage claims must be notified to us within 72 hours of you receiving the delivery in order for us to lodge a successful claim with the courier company.

Do you have a privacy policy?

Yes, please find it here.
