Care for your feathers
Feathers are organic and will break down over time. Consider the following to keep them in tip top condition.
Storage
Between uses store your hand crafted feather accessory in its box as this will protect its shape. Feathers are obviously delicate and the barbs can bend out of shape when in use.
IF this happens do not fret - see below!
Bent feather barbs?
If your feathers get bent out of shape there are a couple of things you can do:

Gently steam your feather accessory over a boiling kettle and when the feather is warm and steamy smooth the vane between finger and thumb in the direction of the barbs.

The long rooster earrings are the only earrings you can gentle pull through warmed hair straighteners lined with tissue paper. Go with the direction of the barbs. This will only work once or twice.
Pests
Feathers are organic and as we don't use any chemicals to treat them (keeping them as natural as possible) they can be attractive to moths and mites.
It is worthwhile storing your feather accessory in their closed box (which also helps them retain their shape) and occasionally pop them in the freezer for a day or two to ensure any bug that may decide to take a liking to your feather will be eradicated.
If you don't mind using chemicals give your feather item a quick spray dusting with fly spray in an aerated area and then restore them in your box.
Wet Feathers?
Don't store your feathers wet as they may dry mis-shapenly or inn the worst cases go mouldy.
You can quickly dry them with a warm hairdryer just like your hair but to retain a better shape lie them on a towel and smooth them out with your fingers every now and then until dry.
Sunlight
Avoid storing your feather accessory in direct sunlight as feathers can degrade and fade in sunlight. Instead store them their box.
